Luminaria Information
Luminaria
On Saturday, October 15th, at 8:30 pm we light candles that have been
placed in bags bearing the names of those who have, or had, cancer. It
is our way of remembering those who have died and showing our support
of those who are surviving cancer. Thousands of these bags light our way
through the night. Luminaria can be purchased for a donation of your choice
prior to the Relay or during the Relay until 7:00 pm. In order for teams
to receive credit for luminaria sales, the forms and money must be handed
in by October 11th's Bank Night Meeting. The forms must also have the
team name listed on them. Any forms handed in after this date will not
count towards team totals.
Tiki
Torches
20 Tiki torches will be lit at the start of the Luminaria Ceremony. These
will be sold on a first come first serve basis at a cost of $50 each,
and may be purchased at Team Captain Meetings. Each Tiki Torch will have
a sleeve in which a picture or other memento can be placed. The torch
is ceremoniously lit and placed in its spot by the person who has donated
the money for its lighting (or a designated proxy). Please note, the Tiki
Torches may mot be taken home. The fee is for the honor of dedicating
and lighting the torch. They are on loan to us.
Please
note the following changes from past Windham Area Relays:
There is no set cost for luminaria. It is suggested that the donation
be at least $5 per luminaria.
In order to count towards your team's total, the forms (with the
team's name on them) and money must be handed in by October 11th. The
luminaria money counts towards your team total if your team has already
handed in $125 per person in regular donations.
